Duck Duck Moose Kicks Off Back-to-School Season with Launch of Moose Math

SAN MATEO (August 8, 2013) – Duck Duck Moose, award-winning creator of educational mobile apps for children, announced today the launch of Moose Math, its seventeenth app on the App Store. Moose Math combines play with deep educational content, teaching fundamental Kindergarten and First Grade math skills. With the help of the Dust Funnies, a new charismatic group of characters, kids can choose from five multi-level activities to practice counting, addition, subtraction and geometry. As they master each level, kids earn rewards to help build up their city. A Report Card tool allows parents and teachers to monitor progress and provides additional skill-building activities with 80 learning goals. To complement this app, Duck Duck Moose has launched a new Learning Portal with teaching resources and supplemental Moose Math worksheets.

Moose Math features five interactive activities:
1) MOOSE JUICE: Make smoothies while practicing counting, addition and subtraction

2) PAINT PET: Count the number of dots and shapes on each pet to make a match

3) PET BINGO: Solve addition, subtraction and counting problems to get BINGO

4) LOST & FOUND: Learn shapes and colors by sorting through toys inside the toy box

5) DOT TO DOT: Help the lost Dust Funny find his way home by counting and connecting the dots

“Moose Math covers a broad set of foundational math concepts within the playful and imaginative world of the Dust Funnies,” said Caroline Hu Flexer, Co-Founder, Duck Duck Moose. “In this app, we’ve pioneered the approach of using an adaptive character that acts as a student’s personal tutor to enhance learning. YaYa the bird responds to a child’s specific interactions with relevant teaching hints, information and encouragement.”

Duck Duck Moose continues its dedication to developing educational apps that boast original content and align with the Common Core State Standards. As with other Duck Duck Moose curriculum-based apps, Moose Math was created with input from Educational Consultant Jennifer DiBrienza, who holds a Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University and is a former elementary school classroom teacher.
“Technology is enhancing the way kids are learning in today’s classrooms. Teachers are using digital tools, such as iPads, in creative ways to adapt lessons for various skill levels,” said DiBrienza. “Moose Math has the perfect combination of developmentally-appropriate math concepts, practice, creative problem solving and fun that teachers look for. It’s an ideal learning tool for building math skills and confidence both inside and outside of the classroom.”
