Duck Duck Moose Wins Parents’ Choice Gold Awards for Top Kids Apps

PALO ALTO (September 22, 2011) – Independent children’s app developer Duck Duck Moose wins two more Parents’ Choice Gold Awards for its mobile apps. Word Wagon and Musical Me! both won Parents’ Choice Gold Awards. All Duck Duck Moose titles have received Parents’ Choice Awards, and Duck Duck Moose is the only publisher that has received eight Parents’ Choice Awards in the Mobile Apps category.

Word Wagon is a letters and phonics learning app that includes more than 100 words (including Dolch words), each with engaging illustrations, animations, and sounds. Claire Green, President of Parents’ Choice, writes: “Levels throughout the categories… begin with learning the names of the letters, move to learning the sounds the letters make, and progress to mastering spelling words with up to six letters. Self-propelled learning may begin with a game, but it’s no joke. The app design takes touch screen technology seriously, and uses it to its age-appropriate best.”

Musical Me! is a music learning app that teaches children about notes, rhythm, pitch, and instruments. Claire Green, President of Parents’ Choice, writes: “Duck Duck Moose is back with a delightful introduction to the world of music…. Especially fun was the note pattern matching game where level one is a three-note pattern, level two four notes, and level three five notes…. Our testers found the “Notes” game the most instructive in which fledgling composers slide notes up and down the treble clef to play the note as shown, and then hear and see the note as it changes.”

The Parents’ Choice Awards program is the nation’s oldest nonprofit program created to recognize quality children’s media. The Parents’ Choice Awards program honors the best material for children. The Parents’ Choice Awards committees look for products that entertain and teach with flair, stimulate imagination and inspire creativity. Judges are interested in how a product helps a child grow: socially, intellectually, emotionally, ethically, and physically.
